Central Heating:
The central heating is in the main living area. The control is next to the dining-room door. There are two elements: The push button for setting "Auto" and "Eco" function and the unit for setting the temperature.
The Auto/Eco switch: In the winter heating period we will have the system set to "Auto" for you already. You can see that on the red colour on the indicator lamp to the left of the heating boiler. When you leave for a day trip or vacate the house please press the "Eco" button. After a short moment the colour on the indicator light on the left will change to blue and set the entire house to "Eco" mode. On your return press the "Auto" button and the space warms quickly due to the central location of the boiler. Should you be staying for several days with a regular schedule feel free to send us your desired heating schedule and we will gladly set it up remotely in the system for you to come home to an already heated house.
When in the house on "Auto": Set the temperature control unit to a comfortable ambient temperature using the dial with the “sun” symbol to a maximum of 23°C when you are in. To change the temperature turn the dial where the sun sympol is on the right side of the central heating unit. For this to work all the time ensure the arrow in the indicator window is pointing at the little sun symbol. If that is not the case then press the "PROG" button several times until the arrow only points at the sun symbol. All set!

Some important aspects: The heating is also controlled through air vents in the living space and the two large bedrooms upstairs. Heated air flows out of these vents to warm the rooms. For the upstairs rooms to be really warm, the cold air needs to be able to return to the heating unit. This is achieved by leaving the bedroom doors a little open and also the door to the living area. If you close all the doors the cold air will not get back to the heating unit and the rooms upstairs will not get that warm. It is practical to leave all the doors open in the upstairs space (and the thick curtain drawn closed) so the warmth can also enter the bathroom and the small bedroom.
Directly above the boiler there is a black knob on a metal plate with “AUF” (open) and “ZU” (closed) written on it. This regulates the hot air flow going to the upper floor if needed.
To heat up the living room quickly ensure the thermostat is set to 24°C or 25°C. Ensure the black vents are open above the boiler. In the living area there are brass vents set in small double doors. Open both doors wide letting lots of warm air into the room.
Problem shooting of the central heating:
The heating is very reliable. However, if it has not been used for some time it can have a trouble starting.
-
Make sure, the heating is switched to “Auto”. The indicator on the wall next to the boiler on the left in the dining area should be red. If it is blue the press the "Auto" button right next to the heating controller for the temperature and wait some minutes. If the indicator is is completely off, the press the upper side of the indicator once and wait some minutes. Observe if the numbers in the temperature controller come on.
-
Open the lower front cover of the boiler. Lift the little metal leaver upwards several times (following the arrow AUF). Occasional the oil float can get jammed and is released by this movement.

-
If the LED on the control unit is not green but red: this indicates an error. Try re-starting the boiler by switching the main switch (“Heizung Hauptschalter”) off and on again. It can take some time (10 minutes) until the heating oil is pumped up from the cellar and you can see a flame in the window.
-
Occasionally after long periods of non-usage, the oil pressure pump in the cellar might need resetting. The key to the oil cellar is with the host of the house (e.g. Daniela or Jesse). There is a push green button on the pump to reset it. Further details for the local hosts here: https://youtu.be/3cs1JW8J2Ao
